A Message from the Senior Warden

Greetings and Welcome!

Ascension is in the process of seeking our next spiritual leader after a remarkable 19-year tenure by the Reverend Dr. Joan Beilstein. I repeat here some of her earlier words of invitation to visitors, newcomers, seekers and skeptics: No matter where you are on your journey, you are welcome to participate in the liturgy, to eat at the Lord’s table, and to share a bit of your faith journey if you feel moved to do so. Here there is unconditional acceptance for you, for your family, for your spouse or partner, for all who are important to you and with whom you share your life.

During this in-between time, you will be welcomed to Sunday services by lay people faithfully acting out “the priesthood of all believers” and by supply clergy engaged to preach and administer communion. We gather at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary, or outdoors at 9:00 a.m. for our shorter and informal summer service to which pets are joyfully invited. If Sunday is a bit much for you, try us at noon on Wednesday for a more intimate and “conversational” service with communion.

Please help us to get to know you. Introduce yourself to me and to others when you visit. Come to coffee hour and chat a bit. Check out one of the many services/events/activities/gatherings that Ascension offers. (Subscribe to our newsletter for more information about all of these.) Get in touch with me via the parish office at 301-587-3272 or office@ascensionsilverspring.org.

The people of Ascension strive to the best of our ability to live out Christ’s call to be a sacred place where all people can find love, support, spiritual nurture, education, comfort, friendship, opportunities for mission in the local community and the world, joy, and fun!

Welcome to Ascension. We hope you might find in us – on your own timetable – a spiritual home.

Faithfully,
