Fun & Fellowship
Men of Ascension
The Men of Ascension group is very informal. We welcome all men to participate as they choose. Activities include:
- Men’s Breakfast — conversation and a brief check-in in the parish hall at 8 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month
- A fall retreat — in recent years held on a fall day at the church
- Occasional help with Parish activities, for example, the Red Cross
- Blood Drive and the Lenten pancake breakfast
For more information, contact Jim Wolf or Bill Schauman via office@ascensionsilverspring.org.
To learn more about any of these groups/activities, please contact the parish office at office@ascensionsilverspring.org.
Women of Ascension
All women are invited to participate in the activities of the Women of Ascension. Currently we offer a “Ladies’ Night Out” a few times a year and a women’s weekend retreat in the Spring. These activities are great for socializing and support.
Elderberries (For those 55+)
All men and women 55+ are invited to gather every other month for a social gathering. This group spends time simply socializing and, when desired, offers a program of interest for those in the middle to late part of life.
Retreats & Pilgrimages
In addition to the annual Women’s and Men’s Retreats, other retreats and pilgrimages are also regularly offered. Under the leadership of rector Rev. Joan and deacon Rev. Terri, members of Ascension have made pilgrimages to Israel, the US Southwest, the Isle of Iona, and the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne. These trips are a time not only for reflection, but for connecting more deeply with fellow congregants. Read more about Retreats & Pilgrimages.
Annual Fundraiser
Church of the Ascension has a spring fundraiser that provides a significant portion of the revenue for the year’s budget. Featuring truly memorable comedy, singing, skits, and more, this hour and a half really brings it! Attendees donate online during the event and Ascension’s own professional auctioneer Lia makes this 90 minutes to remember! We’re happy to enjoy your talent and time!
