In-Person event with civil rights icon Ruby Sales

Saturday, January 20, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

All are welcome!

The Church of the Ascension’s Conversations on Race Group cordially invites you to an interview and discussion with the Civil Rights and social justice activist The Rev. Ruby Sales.

The topic of this special event is “Learning from the Past to Prepare for the Future” in these uncertain and turbulent times. As a 17-year-old activist, Ruby Sales demonstrated to protest the actions of White grocery store owners in Alabama. After being released from jail, one of her fellow protestors, seminary student Jonathan Daniels, was shot and killed as he pulled Ruby out of the line of fire. Rev. Sales has devoted her life to advocating for racial and social justice for all — regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, gender, age – and the reconciliation so urgently needed. You can watch her Ted Talk or her oral history talk for the Library of Congress to prepare yourself.

Please join us in the Parish Hall from 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. to hear Ruby’s wisdom and be inspired! Refreshments will be provided. Questions? Contact Conversations on Race at
